Radiation complete and just Herceptin Now!

Updated: Mar 11, 2019

16th Treatment

What a relief to have radiation completed. It wasn’t too bad until the last week of therapy treatments. Imagine radiating your body while you have the worst sunburn ever. I have never burned myself like this before. Basically raw flesh exposed and little can be done to relieve the discomfort. Petroleum Jelly works well on the pure raw areas and then Aquaphor and Cetaphil on the rest. The radiation oncologist said it will take up to 2 months for a full recovery, but within 3 weeks it should be a lot better.

The Herceptin infusion treatment is every 3 weeks and only takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour through my port. It’s a monoclonal antibody that is designed to treat HER2 positive breast cancer. This treatment will be administered through July 5th. It has minimal side effects, but one that they monitor is the heart. However, less than 2% of patients end up with heart issues. I have an echocardiogram every 3 months to ensure no change.

Since my last entry, my hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes are growing in like crazy. It’s so interesting to watch everything grow in the last 3 weeks. I was a bit worried at my last entry when everything was falling out, but now I understand why. Out with the old and in with the new growth. My eyebrows are super bushy now and the eyelashes are going to be thick. My hair is jet black and not curly yet. I’ve heard from so many people that the head hair grows back thick and curly. We shall see……

2019 is looking better already.
